The model number (usually a shorter number) is engraved at the 12 o'clock position. Older models have the numbers engraved on the inside of the caseback. The serial number allows you to identify that specific watch and determine its production date range.

Starting in 2005, Rolex utilized the inner bezel to engrave the serial number. This inner bezel is also called the rehaut.
The inner bezel and rehaut is best described as the metal space between the dial and the crystal. Starting in 2008, Rolex only engraved the numbers on the rehaut. Use the chart below to determine the age of your Rolex!
